Ways to Fix iPhone Messages Freezing

iPhone messages is popular among users for its fantastic features. It is easy for users to contact others through text messages, audio messages and so on. Unfortunately, the iPhone messages can freezing and crash in daily usage. Delete Conversation Thread

If a particular conversation crashes when you try to access it, just need to clean up the entire conversation thread.

Step 1: Tap and hold on any sent/received messages.
Step 2: Tap on More from the bottom.
Step 3: Tap on the Trash icon → choose messages you want delete → Tap on Delete messages when the pop-up displays.

If those are not important messages, you should tap on Delete All from the top left corner.

Force an App to Close

Sometimes an app that is unresponsive can cause your device to freeze in this case, you need to force the app to close and then your device will go back to normal. Here's how to force an app to close:

Step 1: Press the Home Button twice very quickly. You will see small previews of your most recently used apps.
Step 2: Swipe to the left to find the app you want to close
Step 3: Swipe up on the app's preview to close it.

Reset All Settings

If three solutions above cannot solve the issue, there is another ways to fix the crashed messages app, which is resetting your iOS device.

Step 1: Go to Settings app on your device → Tap on General.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap on Reset → choose Reset All Settings.
Step 3: Tap on Reset All Settings again to confirm.

Update iOS

Outdated software can be a major cause for an unresponsive or frozen device. Therefore mitigating this problem is as easy as updating the device's iOS. You can either update your device wirelessly or via iTunes.

To update wirelessly:
Plug your device into a power source and connect to the internet via Wi-Fi.
Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
Tap Download and install. If you are asked to temporarily remove apps to create space, tap Continue. Your apps will be reinstalled after the update.
To update now, Tap install. You can also choose to install later. If you are asked, enter pass-code.

To Update via iTunes:
Install the latest version of iTunes on your computer
Connect your iPhone to your computer and then open iTunes and select the device.
Click on Summary and then click "Check for Update"
Click "Download and Update"
